Wasteless in Prague

Food waste related environmental, economic and social issues had been discussed by industry, retail, catering, government, and NGO representatives at the Central Europe Food Waste Conference, organised by Tesco Central Europe in Prague, on 5 June 2019, where the Wasteless project has been invited to participate in one of the panel discussions on stage.

The participants agreed that applying common concepts and measuring methodologies would still be necessary, since they are inevitable for food waste reduction.

Eszter Doma, representative of the Wasteless campaign of the NFCSO (Hungarian National Food Chain Safety Office) demonstrated the situation on household food waste in Hungary and the data specific for these households in comparison with the EU average, based on the 1-week-long research of the NFCSO, involving 100 households in 2016. There was a broad consensus on the statement about the importance of awareness-raising and that in case we would like real change in education at the primary school age, the awareness-raising activity should not be avoided. Short videos and social media platforms are inevitable in targeting this generation – these are all activities currently performed by the Wasteless program.
